G’day. To clarify I’m generally known as Scott Kane – the “David” part is not used normally as I use my second given name “Scott” and have done so since birth.
Up until October 2007, when I retired after ten years, I was the primary moderator of comp.software.sh.* Usenet newsgroups, an ex ASP Vice President and Board Member. I’m listed as a founding member of the OISV and AISIP. I’ve been involved in the small software sector, often called “ISV” and “mISV” for over two decades and I’ve been a computer programmer for just on three (I’m getting old as my kids keep telling me) and I’m in the process of working up a series of software applications for sale into a vertical market related to pro audio.
Until very recently I was heavily involved in politics including running in the 2007 Australian Federal elections as a candidate for the seat of McEwen for the Australian Democrats (who have nothing – not even politics in common with the Democrats of the USA. Try and picture a moderate USA style GOP with moderate USA style Democrat beliefs and you have an inkling of what they stand for).
In 2009/2010 I held the positions of National Deputy President of the party and Victorian State Deputy President. In addition I was nominated for pre-selection as Lead Senate Candidate for the 2010 Federal Election. It is certainly true there are a lot of good people in the party, and it is also true there is a cabal of complete arseholes in roles or influencing roles at the national level who have proven they are quite capable of conducting a campaign against individuals, regardless of the legal ramifications, in bid to break what is a centrist ideology. The irony is the left and the far right, which these individuals represent, are also prepared to work together to achieve it.
After being subjected to such a campaign I resigned my position as National Deputy President, State Deputy President and Candidate for Pre-Selection for the Senate in utter disgust and in an effort to shield my family from their activities. Subsequent to this I was persuaded for a variety of reasons to renominate as State Deputy President in Victoria, which I won, and to nominate and was subsequently endorsed as second on the ticket as a Senate Candidate for the 2010 Federal Election.
And.. It started all over again, only this time around the stops where pulled out. In July 2010 I resigned from all positions, days before the 2010 Federal Election was called and completely from the party.
I’d like to make it perfectly clear that the members of the Victorian Division and their executive are people of the highest calibre, people I hold in high esteem. Conversely the people referred to above, the two “factions” are complete and utter scum who make Australian Labor Party branch stacking look like a kindergarten finger painting exercise.
So I’m back now, again, as a Micro ISV developing audio software who also performs consulting on the side to business offering them services in blogging, website design and SEO.
Some folks may know me for my voice over work on radio, video and training tools.
I started this blog by way of an experiment. To assess the value of “blogs”, to test their SEO advantages and to discuss issues that at that time I felt I wanted to talk about. Life being life things changed rapidly. I began boot-strapping an mISV, switched from Delphi after thirteen years to .Net and Visual Studio, became involved in a “30 Day” release sprint in June and many other things.
If you read the articles posted, amongst other things, you’ll see these changes, see the development process of our main application “Mixaction” and also see how delighted I’ve been with the SEO benefits of blogs and the sheer power of WordPress as a platform in general. You’ll probably also come to the inclusion that I love writing articles and am now a confirmed blogging addict!
I’m a confirmed download site detester. You’ll find many articles on this blog giving my reasons and in many cases statistics and or cases in point as to the damage they do to ISV’s.
Best!
Scott
